Big Day Out: Sunday 22nd June after 11.30 a.m. worship. A great afternoon for all the church family. Games, BBQ, sunshine guaranteed. Just come along. If you need directions just ask the door duty elders.

Parish Newsletter: There will be no newsletter for July. Next edition August. Last date for submission of articles will be Fri 18th July.

Enquirers Group: If anybody is interested in exploring membership we may be running another session. Please contact either of the ministers by 29th June.

Sundown Services: Wednesdays in July & August, starting Wednesday 2nd July 8.30pm in Corran Esplanade.

Creche: We need 5 volunteers to assist on a rota basis with the crèche. If you can help at all please see Dugald as soon as possible. Creche will restart on 7th September .

Farewell to Rev Liz Gibson: Date for your diary- Friday 8th August 7pm. As Rev. Liz will be leaving us soon it is planned to hold a leaving event. Details will follow soon. For those who wish to contribute to a gift to mark the occasion please put into an envelope clearly marked and hand in with the offering or to the office over the next few weeks.

Induction Service Rev Liz: Friday August 15th 6.30pm at St.Conan’s, Lochawe. We may run a bus depending on numbers. There will be a list at back of the churches and in the office. Please let us know by Mon 30th June.

Family Faithsahe is happeing this Sunay, 11.15 at the Church Centre. And then in worship we will be welcoming our guest organist, Gary Ballard, from Laurinburg, North Carolina. We will also have a trumpeter.

After coffee at church the picnic starts at Ardoran. Games, BBQ, nture trail.

Big Day Out

Sunday 22nd is both Family Faithshare and our Big Day Out picnic. So far about 60 are coming to the Big Day Out to enjoy face painting, BBQ, games, nature trail etc.

And in worship we will have a guest organist and a trumpeter! What a day to give glory to God.

Sunday 22nd is the day for Family Faithshare and The Big Day Out.

So far we have about sixty folk coming to the Big Day Out picnic at Ardoran. Just come along, even if you haven't booked, for BBQ, face painting, games, nature trail quiz and songs. We will be leaving the church just after Family Faithshare, c. 12.45pm and the day will finish about 3.00pm.

Rev Liz will be leading our Family Faithshare. There will be talk, games and workshops about sparrows, us and God.

The news has spread that Kilmore and Oban will be soon without Rev Liz Gibson. Our loss is Dalmally's gain.

Matters have been moving on apace and so soon the advert for the the position will be ready. If you are interested check July's Life and Work, or the Ministrs' Forum, or the Church of Scotland website. All these will soon have the advert.

Family Faithshare

Remember it is this week! Sunday 25th 11.15am at Church Cenhtre. This week we have puppets and Fischy Music songs!

And put in your diaries the Big Day Out, our picnic for all the church family. Sunday 22nd June after Family Faithshare and worship. There will be games, BBQ and guaranteed sunshine. Everyone welcome though we cannot take unaccompained children.

Only two weeks to go and it will be another Family Faithshare. So if you are part of a family with children of primary school age come along to the Church Centre to explore the theme for the day. This month we will be thinking through what it is to be a 'saint'!!

Advance notice: Our congregational pinic with games for childen will be after church (and Family Faithshare) on Sunday 22nd June. We will be going down to Lerags on Loch Feochan for a traditional Sunday School picnic with a twist: BBQ grub, a nature trail, games and everyone welcome. More details to come. We will need names to help us cater.

Ray, Baroness Michie of Gallanach

Funeral Service: Saturday 10th May, 11.00am

Ray, a member of our congregation, and former MP for Argyll, died on Wednesday. Our prayers go out to all who knew and loved this wonderful woman. Many, many people will gather for her funeral service. Our hope is that this service will provide a fitting tribute to an exceptional Scot, Gael, politician and liberal.

The big news to hit our congregation is that our Associate Minister Liz Gibson is now sole nominee for the charge of Dalmally. Liz will be preaching for the charge on Sunday 11th May, and our prayers will be with her.

Liz is so loved here, and she will be missed by all of us. However, she is entering a new and exciting stage in her ministry and all our prayers surround, Martyn and the boys.

It will be a while off before Liz leaves and so meantime we will enjoy her ministry and save our formal and fondest goodbyes until that time.

BBC response

Since our morning service went live on BBC Radio 4 there has been a huge response. Contacts have been made from New Zealand, USA, Australia, Canada and even Serbia!

So many people have requested copies of the music and the Gaelic singing of Mary Catherine MacNeil has touched a great many hearts.

The BBC were great although the continuity announcer mis-pronounced Oban as O-Ban.

We are glad our service was ecumenical and we gave of our best from Oban and Argyll.

Church Without Walls Saturday 3rd May: Come on the church outing to National Gathering at Ingliston. Bus is leaving Oban 9am. and returning from Ingliston 6pm. Cost for bus: £10 Admission: Day-£10, Weekend -£17.50, Family Day- £30 (2 adults 2 children under 16) Under 5 Free.(Don’t let cost be a problem – let us know if you need a concession)

If you would like to join our email/text community based round Family Faithshare, please send us your details, i.e. email address and text. As this is a family project anyone making contact should be 18 years old. We will only use your info for church purposes.

Why are we doing this? A few reasons, but basically to help us keep in touch with the large number of families associated with Family Faithshare. We met every month for fun and worship, and other new and exciting events are planned. Having you email address will let us keep you 'in the loop.'

Another bonus, as we are a Eco-congregation, will be that we will cut down on the paper used in putting snail mail flyers around.

Lift you eyes to the heavens and you might just se our website address! We have just placed a new banner on our church spire. This landmark site will give the people of Oban and visitors the opportunity to check out our website. The banner also shows that we are a Fairtrade and Eco-congregtion.

Rev Dugald enjoyed his trip up the spire on Hugh MacLean's cherrypicker. However he has been heard to say that this is the closest to heaven that he wants to be for a while!

Good News - Church Full

What a day! Our Easter Egg rolling and breakfast was a real whole church family event. Lots of children rolled their eggs and brought their joy to a beautiful morning. Then when we went into the church for worship we had to scramble around to find enough seats for everyone. In the end every single seat was taken - so standing room only. We celebrated a wonderful all age communion, and then went out singing the great Easter hymns.

Over 100 people also worshipped at 8.00am on Pulpit Hill, and a great attendance was had at Glencruitten Road. So all in all the whole congregation experienced a wonderful day of Easter new life.

March 29 - Short walk from Carsaig to Crinan. 5 to 6 miles forestry track.
Morning coffee Tayvallich/Afternoon tea Crinan or The Smiddy.

April 12 - Short walk - The Ballachulish Circle 5-6 miles forestry track.
Morning coffee Visitor Centre/Afternoon Tea Tighphuirt.

April 26 - Easy walk Fassfern and Glenloy (Caledonian Canal) 7 / 8 miles
Afternoon Tea Fort William or Tighphuirt.

May 17 - North Arran. Catacol to Lochranza 8/9 miles hill track
Can be done on the day or by utilising local B/B .

June 7 - Corrour Halt to Fersit via Loch Ossian. 12 long miles on track
Iron Horse to Corrour. T and P on train ahead of a big day.
Definitely no cream teas at the Lodge!

July 5 - Ben Lawers 3984 feet via Beinn Ghlas. Tourist Track from N/T
Centre at 1500 feet. 6/7 miles.
Cuppa at N/T tearoom
followed by late afternoon tea in Killin (choice).

July 26 - Kerrera walk. A few miles to work off the rigours of previous
two considerable efforts. Tea and carrot cake at Gylen.

August 23 - North Mull walk. Another of Tolmie’s treats.
At a guess 8 miles around the Tobermory area.
Those with bus passes be sure to bring them. Afternoon tea
guaranteed (On the ferry if stuck).

Sept 6 - Beinn Narnain and Beinn Ime 5/8 miles on well defined
mountain tracks. (Total vertical ascent in excess of 4000 ft)
Bearing in mind that this is a climb from sea level,
it will not be deemed obligatory to do both.
However, this ascent dovetails with a fund raising effort,
‘Aran Agus Im’, endorsed by Scottish International Relief at Dalmally to provide a shelter/kitchen for a School awaiting ‘Mary’s Meals’ in Malawi. It is an opportunity for Kilmore and Oban to support this initiative. In other words not only will you be knackered but you will have to put your hand
in your pocket too! Teas will therefore be dependent upon your residual change.

Sept 20 – Lismore walk A gentle sojourn on roads and paths.
Teas available but careful don’t miss that ferry.

Oct 4 – Lochearnhead to Callander 12 miles by hill track.
A fair drag of 1500 ft over the east side of Beinn Vorlich
followed by a pleasant descent with your sights on the distant
Wallace Monument at Stirling (well on a good day that is!)
Coffee and Teas aplenty for the poor and for the gentry.

Nov 1 - Somewhere up Musdale ending the season, as we began it,
with a coffee and a bun – probably at Robin’s Nest.

Creche

Babies, are you reading this? Our new creche is launched on Sunday 3rd February. Bring mum or dad, or grandparent along to church and leave them to appreciate worship. They will have dropped you off in the church centre undercroft. Our helpers will be there in creche to keep you happy and amused.

This creche facility is open to both regular attenders and visitors and caters for 0-3yrs incl.
